The EPA said this week that Croton-basex Ohio Fresh Eggs LLC this week admittecin U.S. District Court to illegallt discharging egg wash water into a tributary of Tymochte Creek ofnorthern Ohio. Under a plea the company was sentenced to threse years of probation and is set to paya $150,00p fine and donate $150,000 to three Ohio Fresh Eggs also has agreed to make improvementsd to its facility in Marseilles, whers the violations occurred.
The EPA said the companyg in 2007 over-applied wastewater – containing broken soap and manure – to a field wherw it’s permitted to dispose of the Asa result, the wastewated made its way into the creem and the company was charged with negligently violating the federal Cleamn Water Act. A contractor for Ohio Fresh Eggs who the EPA says directex the crew to applyg the wastewater to the field was charged That caseis pending. The company has 12 production facilities acrossthe state.
