Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bade Ginsberg granted a motion file d by Indiana state pension funds to delay the merger between the American and Italian automakerse in whatthe U.S. Treasurgy Department said was an administrative extension designed to allowa sufficient time for the Supremse Court to explore whether or not a stay is according to several published reportslate Monday. The Supremw Court move extends a stay already issuedr by a lower court that was set to expirw lateafternoon Monday. Fiat has giveb Chrysler until June 15 to finishthe merger. Attorneys for the pension funds argued that they woulfd receive just pennies on the dollar fora $42 millionm loan given to Chrysler. However, U.
S. Solicito r General Elena Kagan said the imminen collapse ofChrysler — said to be losingf upward of $100 million daily was of greater concern to government officials than the loan When Chrysler filed for it announced it wouldc reject 789 dealership agreements nationwide, including nine in the St. Louis metro area. Chrysler’s restructuring plan also callxs for closing eight including Chrysler’s two plants in Fenton, Mo. Chrysler’s Southn plant in Fenton, which assembles minivans, was idledd at the end of October.
Chrysler’s North which makes Dodge Ram trucks, was idled earlier this monthy for one to two months and The plant s hademployed 1,200 workers in Fenton, down from 5,00p0 several years ago.
