Voting on the five-year offer by members of Uniteds Food and Commercial Workers Local 7 will continuethrougbh Wednesday. Union leaders are not makingy a recommendation to theif members on thecontracty offer, which the union complains would cut pensionb benefits by an average of $100,000 -- a conclusioh disputed by management. “It’s a good contracty in a normal It’s a great contrac t in this economy,” King Soopers spokeswoman Dianew Mulligan saidlast week. She said roughlyu 65 percent of workerxs would get raises underthe company’s proposal. King Soopers is a Coloradi unitof Cincinnati-based (NYSE: KR).
Coloradko workers for two other groceryuchains — Pleasanton, Calif.-based SWY) and Boise, Idaho-based (privately held) continue to negotiate separate deals with their employers. If King Sooperws workers rejectthe chain’x latest proposal, they will continue working withouf a contract until an agreementf is reached or a strike is Their contract expired May 9.
