Verizon reaches deal with Pittsburgh on cable service - Pittsburgh Business Times:

Currently, Pittsburgh cable access is availablthrough Philadelphia-based Comcast and severakl satellite TV providers. Under the agreement, Verizon would commiy to making FiOS cable service available for at least 50 percentf ofthe city’s householdzs within three years and for 100 percent of the populatio within six years. The company also will furnish its high-speedd fiber optic lines for a privatew network for public safety operationa and add two publicaccess channels, one of whicn will carry educational programing. The agreement now must be approvesd byCity Council, where it awaits introduction at Tuesday’sw meeting, and by the Cabl e Advisory Board.
If the deal wins approval, it woulcd bring in franchise tax revenue to the Comcast accountsfor $4.1 million of the city’s gross annuak revenue, according to the mayor’s spokeswoman Joanna Dovan. Previous coverage:
