After failing to generate enough revenue or secureadditional financing, the Boca Raton-basef air taxi pioneer on Nov. 14 filed for bankruptcy liquidationb less than a year after itbegan operating. It listed more than $23 millio in liabilities and $17 million in DayJet, founded by Ed Iacobucci, who also started software giant , used a new software schedulinh system toprovide per-seat, on-demand flights to smallere airports. Albuquerque, N.M.-based , which supplies DayJet with its aircraft, had the largest bankruptcy claimat $16 million. Eclipsd filed for bankruptcy shortlyafter DayJet.
The 28 Eclipser jets that madeup DayJet’s fleeft were foreclosed on and sold earlier this year, said George bankruptcy trustee. Miller said he heard from industry sourcex that each jet sold forabout $600,000. They cost abouf $1.1 million when new. Stuary Klaskin, an aviation consultanty with Coral Gables-based Klaskin, Kushnere & Co., said he also heard the planes were sold forabout $600,000. That would have been a good deal for the selled if buyers face problems getting the planes Klaskin added. Next up for sale is a mishmash of propertg that DayJet forfeited to its landlord when it left the Boca Ratob Research and Development Parknear .
The landlord, Boca R&D Project 7 LLC will conducft a public sale at10 a.m. on June 18. The landlorde did not immediately return callfor but, among other things, a public for-sale notice listds computers, printers, office furniture, a stainless steelp refrigerator and 14 airplane tires. Klaskin, who said he has studiexd several bankruptcies, noted that everythingv goes on the block when acompanhy dissolves. “At the end of the day, it oftej comes down to coffee cups andfax paper,” he “Every office ought to have at leastf one airplane tire.
” But, DayJet’s interest in its sistet company, DayJet Technologies, may still fetch some real DayJet Technologies, which developed the software used to schedule and dispatcj planes, is not in Chapter 7. Pending court approval, Miller said he has a buyedr of who will pay atleast $250,000 for DayJet Corp’sz 35 percent stake in DayJeyt Technologies. Klaskin said the technology migh have value for another air taxi stargt up that grows at a more modesf pacethan DayJet. “It’s entirelh possible that there may be some use in that applicationb forthe technology,” he said. Meantime, ther are probably good deals to be had on airplan e tires comeJune 18.
